LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Dalton Wells Jr., 14, was identified as the teenager who died after a shooting inside a Louisville home on Wednesday afternoon. Louisville Metro Police responded around 2:30 p.m. to a residence in the 1800 block of Greenwood Avenue, located just west of Dixie Highway, after receiving a report of a shooting.

Officers arrived to find Dalton Wells Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders transported him to UofL Hospital in downtown Louisville, where he later died from his injuries.

Police said preliminary findings at the scene indicated the shooting was accidental and self-inflicted. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed Dalton Wells Jr. as the victim on Saturday.

Authorities noted that while the initial determination points to an accidental shooting, the investigation remains ongoing and the final manner of death is still pending.
