Fatal Wadena house fire death of David Hanes – Obituary
David Hanes, 73, of rural Wadena, tragically lost his life Thursday evening when a fire consumed his home in Compton Township. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the blaze around 7:40 p.m., and multiple local fire departments, including Wadena, Bluffton, Deer Creek, and Henning, responded to the scene.
Firefighters discovered Hanes unresponsive inside the residence. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, he was transported to Astera Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The family’s dog also perished in the fire.
Officials report that the home was completely destroyed. The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause, which is currently considered non-suspicious. A GoFundMe has been created to support Hanes’ widow, Jeannie, as she copes with the loss of her husband and their home.
