Fatal Los Angeles car crash death of Shiela Johnson – Obituary
Shiela Johnson, a 66-year-old man, died after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run incident earlier this month in the Vermont Square neighborhood of Los Angeles, according to police.
The collision occurred around 7 p.m. on Jan. 12 near the intersection of Western Avenue and 45th Place. Investigators with the Los Angeles Police Department said Johnson was crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk when he was hit by a silver Honda Odyssey traveling northbound on Western Avenue.
Johnson suffered severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Authorities later confirmed that he died from his injuries on Sunday, Jan. 27, as reported by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
Police said the driver of the Honda Odyssey did not stop to render aid and instead fled the scene, last seen heading east on 42nd Place from Western Avenue. The vehicle involved is believed to have damage consistent with the collision.
A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the suspect under the city’s Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. Anyone with information is urged to contact LAPD’s South Traffic Division.
