Fatal Fort Mill deputy-involved shooting death of Allen Josue Topete-Guevara – Obituary
Allen Josue Topete-Guevara, a 22-year-old Fort Mill resident, was shot and killed Friday morning during an encounter with a York County sheriff’s deputy, authorities confirmed. The shooting occurred at a home on Pine Ridge Court, where first responders had been dispatched following a report of an unconscious person who was not breathing.
According to the York County Coroner’s Office, Topete-Guevara was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy and toxicology testing are scheduled, with results expected later this week. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the York County Coroner’s Office are jointly investigating the incident.
Officials said deputies arrived around 9:20 a.m. and later found Topete-Guevara inside the residence holding a knife after he regained consciousness. Authorities reported that he barricaded himself in a room and did not comply with commands to drop the weapon and exit peacefully. When the door was opened, investigators say he moved toward the deputy while still armed, prompting the deputy to fire his weapon. No law enforcement officers were injured.
The deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave, which officials stated is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings. York County Sheriff Tony Breeden requested that SLED take over the investigation.
Topete-Guevara’s family has disputed the circumstances of the shooting, describing it as unjust. Relatives have organized a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and the cost of transporting his body to Honduras, where his mother currently resides. The family said he was deeply loved and had many plans for his future, and his sudden death has left them devastated.
