Fatal Upshur County house fire death of Paul Christopher Wooten – Obituary
Paul Christopher Wooten, 64, of Upshur County, Texas, died when a fire destroyed his home on Hawthorne Road in the Pritchett area early Saturday morning, February 1, 2026. Two others sustained injuries after jumping from the burning home and were taken to the hospital.
Upshur County Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Rhonda Welch reported that Wooten was unable to escape the flames. Investigators suspect a space heater may have sparked the fire. The residence was completely destroyed, leaving the family without belongings, and the Red Cross has stepped in to provide assistance.
Community members have begun organizing aid for the family. Donations including clothing and shoes are being collected to help the two-year-old child and adult family members recover from the tragedy.
