Fatal Camarillo shooting death of Stephen Worthington – Obituary
Stephen Worthington, a 48-year-old Camarillo resident, was killed in a daytime shooting on January 31 as authorities continue to examine the events that led to his death and the death of the suspected shooter.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the 400 block of Walker Avenue shortly before noon. When they arrived, they found Worthington suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, marking Camarillo’s first homicide of 2026.
Investigators stated that Worthington was not armed when he was shot. The suspect was later identified as 42-year-old Steven Green, also from Camarillo.
After leaving the scene, Green was located by Los Angeles Police Department officers traveling on Interstate 405 near Imperial Highway. Authorities said he refused commands to exit his vehicle and later appeared to take his own life with a firearm during the standoff.
Law enforcement officials explained that LAPD officers were able to find the suspect after receiving an alert issued by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives have since interviewed witnesses and are working to determine whether there was any prior connection between Worthington and Green.
Officials have not released details about the firearm involved, including whether the same weapon was used in both shootings. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
