Fatal East Cleveland, Ohio car crash death of Milton Day – Obituary
Milton Day, a 48-year-old man from Cleveland, has been identified as the passenger who died following a vehicle crash that occurred after a brief police pursuit in East Cleveland, authorities confirmed.
According to the East Cleveland Police Department, the incident began shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when an officer observed a vehicle being driven recklessly near the intersection of Hayden and Shaw avenues. When the officer activated emergency lights and sirens, the vehicle initially stopped at Hayden and Alder avenues before suddenly speeding away.
Police said the pursuit lasted approximately three minutes before it was terminated due to unsafe speeds and road conditions. Shortly afterward, the fleeing vehicle reached speeds near 48 miles per hour, lost control, and struck a tree at the intersection of East 133rd Street and 4th Avenue.
At the crash site, the driver was taken into custody. Day, who was riding as a passenger, was found unconscious and trapped beneath the vehicle. Both individuals were transported to University Hospitals, where Day was pronounced dead around 12:16 a.m.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office formally identified Day as the deceased. The Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation, which remains ongoing.
