Bobbie France, 69, was killed in a fire at the Pinecrest apartments, a Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority high-rise in West Price Hill. France, who was disabled and used a walker, lived on the ninth floor where the blaze began early Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded at 2:39 a.m., finding smoke on the eighth and ninth floors and residents evacuating on their own. Despite the quick efforts of around 60 emergency personnel, France was found dead in her apartment.

The cause of death remains under investigation by the fire department and Cincinnati Police Homicide Unit, with authorities awaiting autopsy results to confirm the official determination.
