William Capozzielli, a 70-year-old Rolling Meadows resident, was identified as the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle on Algonquin Road, authorities confirmed.
Police said the crash occurred Tuesday morning in the 2700 block of Algonquin Road. Officers responding to the scene found Capozzielli lying in the roadway after he had been hit by a vehicle traveling through the area.
Capozzielli was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he later died from his injuries, according to investigators.
The incident forced the closure of both directions of Algonquin Road between Barker Lane and New Wilke Road for several hours as police conducted their investigation. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes during the closure.
