Fatal Greensboro car crash death of Justin Ryan Massey – Obituary
Greensboro police are continuing an investigation into the death of 44-year-old Justin Ryan Massey after new evidence led authorities to change the case classification. Massey was found deceased over the weekend on Patterson Street, and officers later located his vehicle several days afterward.
Emergency responders were called to the 3800 block of Patterson Street around 7:27 a.m. on January 31. Greensboro police, firefighters, and Guilford County EMS arrived at the scene, where Massey was pronounced dead.
On Thursday evening at approximately 6:50 p.m., officers with the Greensboro Police Department’s Violent Crime Reduction Team discovered Massey’s vehicle in a creek bed off Patterson Street, near Interstate 40. The vehicle was recovered and towed for further examination.
Investigators are exploring the possibility that Massey exited the vehicle after it left the roadway and traveled on foot before collapsing at the location where his injured body was later found.
Based on this new information, detectives have reclassified the case from a homicide investigation to a death investigation.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have information related to the incident to contact Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the P3tips mobile app or the P3tips website.
