Douglas J. Pertuit, an 82-year-old resident of Louin, Mississippi, lost his life Friday evening following a head-on vehicle collision in Jones County, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

State troopers said the crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. along U.S. Highway 11 near Crump Road in the Moselle area. Pertuit was driving a 2019 Lincoln MKC southbound when his vehicle collided with a northbound 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe.

The Chevrolet Tahoe was occupied by a male driver, a woman, and a toddler at the time of the crash. Authorities reported that all three occupants of the Tahoe sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Pertuit was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the collision, officials confirmed.

Emergency crews from the Jones County Fire Council responded to the incident, and U.S. Highway 11 was shut down in both directions while first responders worked to clear the scene and assist those involved.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol stated that the circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated, and additional details may be released as the investigation continues.
