Fatal West Valley City, Utah carbon monoxide poisoning death of Colton Moser, Mosa’ati Moa and Tim Jones – Obituary
Authorities in West Valley City say three men with disabilities lost their lives after being left inside a vehicle that was running inside a garage, leading to deadly carbon monoxide exposure.
Police arrested 25-year-old Isaiah Pulu, an employee of a transportation service for people with disabilities, in connection with the deaths. Investigators allege Pulu was responsible for driving the men to assisted living facilities on Friday morning.
According to police, the victims were identified as 25-year-old Colton Moser, 22-year-old Mosa’ati Moa, and 39-year-old Tim Jones. Officers say the men were left inside a vehicle that remained running for several hours while parked in a garage.
Pulu reportedly told investigators that he stopped at his residence around 10 a.m. because one of the passengers was being disruptive. He said he left the men inside the vehicle while he went into his apartment to eat and watch television, believing the garage door was open and the windows were down.
Police said Pulu returned around 1:30 p.m. to continue transporting the men and discovered them unresponsive. He also reported that the vehicle was no longer running and the garage door was closed when he returned.
Emergency responders were called to the scene and pronounced all three men dead. Investigators later determined the cause of death to be carbon monoxide poisoning.
Disability rights advocates described the incident as deeply disturbing and emphasized that individuals with disabilities face increased risks of neglect and abuse. They also noted that while laws exist to protect vulnerable adults, stronger oversight of service providers may be needed.
Pulu was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on multiple charges, including three counts of manslaughter and aggravated abuse of a vulnerable adult. The investigation remains ongoing.
