Fatal Temple, Texas car crash death of John Reed Hopkins – Obituary
John Reed Hopkins, an 80-year-old man from Temple, lost his life following a serious traffic collision near the city on Friday, February 6, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The crash occurred east of Temple at the intersection of Texas 53 and Little Flock Road.
Authorities said Hopkins was driving a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound on Little Flock Road when, for reasons still unknown, he failed to stop at a posted stop sign. His vehicle entered the intersection and was struck by a Ford Transit van traveling east on Texas 53.
Emergency responders transported Hopkins and the van’s 25-year-old driver to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple. DPS officials confirmed that Hopkins later died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash. The other driver was injured but survived.
The Bell County Sheriff’s Office assisted Texas Highway Patrol at the scene, describing the incident as a major crash. Traffic in the area was impacted while investigators examined the scene.
Texas DPS stated that the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
