Fatal Fairfax County crash death of Dariush Bakhtiani – Obituary

Dariush Bakhtiani, 57, of Centreville, was killed Friday afternoon in a multi-vehicle collision on Braddock Road near George Mason University’s western campus in Fairfax. Authorities said excessive speed likely played a role in the chain-reaction crash that involved a Fairfax County police cruiser.

According to police, three vehicles were stopped at a red light in the eastbound lanes when Bakhtiani’s Toyota Camry, traveling at a high speed, struck the cruiser. The force of the impact pushed the cruiser into the car ahead, which then collided with a fourth vehicle.

Bakhtiani was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead. The officer driving the cruiser suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
