Kaden Young, a 15-year-old, was killed during a late-night break-in at an apartment complex in Jackson, Mississippi, according to police. Officers say Young was shot by a resident who feared for her life after two masked intruders forced their way into her apartment.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday at the Park at Inverness Apartments. Investigators say two males wearing ski masks entered the apartment, prompting the resident to fire a weapon in self-defense. Young was struck and died from his injuries at the scene.

Police identified the second suspect as 18-year-old Quintavion Myles, who fled the apartment after the shooting. Authorities later took Myles into custody, and he is currently being held while facing a murder charge, according to Jackson police.

The woman who fired the gun was taken to police headquarters for questioning and later released. No charges have been announced against her at this time.

Officials say the case remains under investigation and will be presented to a grand jury for review.
