Authorities in Lake County have identified the man who was killed during an officer-involved shooting over the weekend in the north suburbs. The Lake County Coroner’s Office said the victim was 58-year-old Ricardo Delafuente of Waukegan.

According to officials, the shooting happened in the 100 block of Leith Avenue after Waukegan police were called to the area just before 3 p.m. Saturday for a report involving a man who had attempted suicide. Police confirmed that three officers responded to the scene.

At some point during the encounter, officers fired their weapons, striking Delafuente. The coroner’s office reported that he died from multiple gunshot wounds. No officers or other individuals were injured during the incident.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting have not yet been fully explained. Investigators were seen collecting evidence, with multiple markers placed near a home in the area. Crime scene tape surrounded several nearby residences, and a Waukegan police vehicle was later removed from the scene as part of the investigation.

The incident remains under review by authorities.
