Authorities in Powhatan County have identified the woman who was killed during a domestic incident over the weekend. The Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office said the deceased victim was 52-year-old Melissa Ann Seamster.

Officials reported that deputies and state police were called to a home on the 2000 block of Red Lane Road around 7:45 p.m. Saturday following a domestic assault. Both a man and a woman sustained serious stab wounds. One victim was transported by air to a nearby hospital, while Seamster was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators confirmed that Cody Travis Mulchi, Seamster’s son, has been charged with second-degree murder, as well as charges related to stabbing with intent to kill or maim and assault and battery of a family member. Authorities have not provided an update on the condition of the man who was injured, citing medical privacy laws.

The case remains under investigation as officials continue to review the circumstances of the attack.
