Fatal Cherokee County fire death of Phillip Eulan Raines – Obituary

Phillip Eulan Raines, 41, was killed in an early morning fire on Tuesday in Cherokee County, South Carolina. The blaze erupted around 7:15 a.m. in a metal outbuilding being used as living quarters, which neighbors reported hearing as a loud boom.

Emergency crews arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters brought the fire under control and discovered two bodies inside. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Only Raines has been positively identified so far, while forensic testing is underway to determine the identity of the second victim.

Investigators noted that the building lacked proper electrical connections and was powered by an extension cord from a nearby home. Authorities believe a kerosene heater inside the structure may have started the fire. The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office, Sheriff’s Office, and the State Law Enforcement Division Arson Division are continuing their investigation into the incident.
