Russell Back, a 58-year-old resident of Mondovi, was killed Saturday in a deadly commercial vehicle crash on Interstate 94 in Jackson County, Wisconsin. Authorities confirmed Back as the driver who lost his life in the incident near Black River Falls.

The Wisconsin State Patrol reported that the crash occurred just before the westbound exit ramp when Back’s tractor-trailer left the roadway. The vehicle traveled several hundred feet into a ditch, where it struck multiple trees and suffered extensive damage to both the cab and trailer.

Back was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash.

Investigators are also looking into whether another commercial motor vehicle may have played a role in the incident. Officials said a second truck believed to be connected was later found near Menomonie. The exact circumstances that led to the crash have not yet been determined, and the investigation remains ongoing.
