Gabryel Ayers, 26, was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon in a violent attack on Chicago’s South Side. Ayers was in a car with her 27-year-old boyfriend when three gunmen opened fire, striking her multiple times. Her boyfriend survived the shooting with injuries, and remarkably, her 1-year-old daughter in the back seat was unharmed.

The attack left the car wrecked, and Ayers was pronounced dead at the scene. Local leaders, including Mayor Brandon Johnson, joined a Friday prayer vigil to mourn her loss and call for an end to gun violence.
