Fatal Florida home carbon monoxide death of Yohan Sanchez, Rebeca Santos, Michael Melendez, and Samuel Sanchez – Obituary
Yohan Sanchez, 33, his wife Rebeca Santos, 37, and their two children, 15-year-old Michael Melendez and 2-year-old Samuel Sanchez, were found dead inside their Florida home Saturday night in what investigators suspect was carbon monoxide poisoning. Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office discovered the family around 10:25 p.m. on Banyan Track Way during a welfare check.
Authorities indicated no foul play is suspected, though the official cause of death is pending confirmation from the Medical Examiner’s Office. The family had relocated from Massachusetts to Florida about a year ago, and Sanchez, a retired U.S. Coast Guard veteran, was remembered by relatives as devoted to his faith, family, and public service.
Sanchez’s mother, Jackie Soto, said she had spoken with her son by phone the night before the tragedy, describing the conversation as brief and routine while he was baking a cake. His brother, Sendy, expressed deep shock over the sudden loss, emphasizing that nothing like this was anticipated.
The U.S. Coast Guard will cover funeral arrangements for Sanchez, while the family must arrange services for his wife and children. Investigators continue examining the scene as the family grieves their unexpected loss.
