Authorities have confirmed that Aaron Jacob Carbajal, 28, of Salinas, was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Big Sur on Tuesday evening. Officials said Carbajal was alone in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were dispatched around 4:20 p.m. after reports that a car had left the roadway along Highway 1 near Hurricane Point, north of Big Sur. Multiple agencies responded to the scene as rain and strong winds created difficult conditions for rescue and recovery efforts.

California Highway Patrol officials stated that responders later located the vehicle resting on rocks near the shoreline, approximately 750 feet below the highway. The driver was found deceased at the scene, and the fatality was confirmed shortly thereafter.

The crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details about what may have caused the vehicle to veer off the cliff.
