Fatal Santa Clarita car crash death of Genry and Patty Ortiz – Obituary

A tragic collision in Santa Clarita claimed the lives of Genry and Patty Ortiz while leaving their adult daughter hospitalized. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the driver involved, a 17-year-old whose name has not been released due to his age, is in custody at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey on suspicion of felony DUI and manslaughter. Authorities noted the teen held a valid California driver’s license and had no prior traffic offenses.

The Ortiz family had been returning from church when the crash occurred around 11:15 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Newhall Ranch Road and Bouquet Canyon Road. One of the parents died at the scene, while the other passed shortly after arriving at the hospital. Their 25-year-old daughter, Erin, survived but sustained serious injuries and was admitted for treatment.

Genry and Patty were active members of their local church, known for dedicating much of their time to community service. Speaking to ABC7, their son, Eder David Ortiz, described his sister’s condition: she was in significant pain and limited in movement due to her injuries. Eder expressed his faith, saying that despite the family’s grief, they trust in God’s plan and are focused on helping his sister recover while coping with the loss.
