Officials have confirmed the identity of the truck driver who lost his life in a crash early Sunday morning on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel near Cape Charles.

The victim was identified as 61-year-old Ronnie Andrews of Robersonville, North Carolina. Authorities said the collision happened at approximately 6:40 a.m. along the southbound section of the bridge-tunnel close to the North Channel Bridge, just south of Fisherman’s Island.

Investigators reported that no other vehicles were involved in the incident. The tractor-trailer Andrews was operating belonged to Perdue Farms.

In a statement, Perdue Farms expressed deep sorrow over the loss, saying the company was devastated by the passing of one of its drivers. The company extended condolences to his family and loved ones, noting that Andrews was a respected employee whose absence will be greatly felt. Perdue also confirmed it is assisting officials as they continue looking into the cause of the crash.

The investigation into the fatal incident remains ongoing.
