Authorities say a man who was shot during the early hours of March 8 in New Bern has died from his injuries. The New Bern Police Department confirmed that the victim, 31-year-old Lamark Simmons, passed away after being taken to the hospital following the incident.

Officers were dispatched at about 1:31 a.m. to the area of Cramer Drive near Carmer Street after a ShotSpotter system detected gunfire. When police arrived at the scene, they found Simmons suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders transported him to CarolinaEast Medical Center for treatment, but he later died from his injuries.

During the investigation, police arrested 26-year-old Yashua Dyer. Authorities say Dyer is facing a charge of felony accessory after the fact in connection with the shooting. He is currently being held without bond at the Craven County Jail.

Investigators and forensic teams processed evidence at the location as part of the ongoing case. Officials say the investigation remains active while detectives continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
