A late-night shooting on Chicago’s South Side left two women dead inside a residence, according to police. Authorities confirmed that one of the victims was 68-year-old Phyllis Goolsby, who lived at the home where the violence occurred.

The incident took place around 10:50 p.m. Saturday in the 10400 block of South Peoria Street in the Washington Heights neighborhood. When officers arrived, they discovered two women, ages 68 and 71, suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest inside the house.

Emergency responders determined that both victims had died from their injuries at the scene. The Cook County Medical Examiner later identified one of the deceased women as Phyllis Goolsby.

Police said a 75-year-old man who was present at the location was taken into custody shortly after officers arrived. Authorities also recovered a weapon at the scene as part of their investigation.

Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the double homicide, and officials said criminal charges against the man in custody are still pending.
