A tragic fire in Westville claimed the life of 65-year-old Bryan J. Adams on Thursday night, authorities confirmed.
The blaze occurred on Hickman Street near Illinois Route 1 just before midnight, destroying both a two-story home and a four-car detached garage. Firefighters from the Westville Area Fire Protection District, along with assistance from Georgetown, Catlin, and Lynch fire departments, responded to the scene and conducted a primary search, where Adams was found unresponsive and could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire took roughly two hours to bring under control, and both the house and garage were completely destroyed. Law enforcement and fire officials, including the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Office, Westville Police Department, Illinois State Police, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal, are investigating the circumstances and cause of the fire.
An autopsy was scheduled to determine further details. Authorities have not released a cause of the fire, which remains under investigation.
