Authorities have identified the man whose body was recovered from the Chicago River early Saturday morning. The victim, Ashraf Mahomed, was 52 years old.

According to officials, police were dispatched at approximately 7:20 a.m. after receiving a marine distress call in the Budlong Woods area. The report directed officers to the 5200 block of North Virginia Avenue, near River Park along the north branch of the Chicago River on the city’s North Side.

Emergency crews with the Chicago Fire Department responded and retrieved Mahomed’s body from the water. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed his identity.

Investigators have not yet determined the circumstances surrounding Mahomed’s death, and officials have not released additional details as the investigation continues.
