Fatal Salem, Oregon car crash death of Daniel Lewis – Obituary

Authorities have identified 54-year-old Daniel Lewis of Salem as the driver who died in a two-vehicle crash early on March 28 near Willamette Town Center.

The collision occurred just before 3:30 a.m. on the 1300 block of Lancaster Drive. Police reported that Lewis was driving a gray Ford Mustang when a white Mercedes SUV, traveling at a high rate of speed, struck his vehicle. Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 31-year-old passenger in Lewis’s car sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Salem Hospital. The Mercedes fled the scene but was later located a few blocks away, and the driver was arrested. The suspect faces multiple charges, including second-degree manslaughter, assault, DUII, and reckless driving.

Lancaster Drive was closed from Market Street to D Street for nearly six hours while police investigated and cleared the wreckage. Officials reopened the roadway around 9:30 a.m.

This marks Salem’s second fatal traffic incident of 2026. The investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing.
