Lafimmas Hayes was shot and killed by a Tulane University police officer on March 27, 2026, in the Central Business District of New Orleans after allegedly shooting two other people. Authorities report the incidents began on the 1400 block of Tulane Avenue, where Hayes reportedly got into an altercation with a man that escalated to gunfire, striking the first victim.

Hayes then crossed the street multiple times and shot a second victim, a Tulane maintenance worker. Both victims were critically injured and are receiving medical treatment. Tulane officers responded promptly, and Hayes was fatally shot at the scene.
