Authorities have identified 37-year-old Jacob Ballard as the man who was killed in a shooting in Thompsonville, Michigan.

The incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. on March 28 at a residence along the 14000 block of Hall Avenue. Deputies from the Benzie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found Ballard already deceased.

Investigators have charged 66-year-old Jonathan Walter Frederick with open murder in connection to Ballard’s death. Frederick was arrested at the scene on unrelated charges and remains held without bond at the Benzie County Jail. Preliminary reports indicate that the two men knew each other, and authorities have stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The investigation was assisted by the Michigan State Police, local EMS units, and the Benzie County Prosecutor’s Office. Officials are asking anyone with information relevant to the case to contact the Benzie County Sheriff’s Office.
