Joe Lewis Gallegos, 34, of Stockton, California, has been identified as the motorcyclist who died Sunday night in a high-speed crash in Ripon. The accident took place around 8 p.m. at the intersection of River Road and North Ripon Road, in the northeast section of the city.

According to witnesses, Gallegos was riding a sports motorcycle estimated to be traveling over 100 mph when he struck the concrete curbing and a sign pole in the center of a roundabout. The impact caused the motorcycle to flip six to eight times, throwing Gallegos roughly 12 feet from the bike before landing on the roadway.

First Sergeant Steve Merchant of Ripon Police reported that the motorcycle was severely damaged, breaking apart and leaving debris scattered across the scene. Emergency responders confirmed Gallegos’ death at the site.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including speed and roadway conditions. Family and friends remember Gallegos as a passionate motorcyclist whose life was tragically cut short.
