Fatal Bronx shooting death of Lucien Colon – Obituary

Lucien Colon, 44, was fatally shot Thursday morning by NYPD officers executing a bench warrant at his Mott Haven apartment. The incident occurred around 7:15 a.m. on Willis Avenue, near Bruckner Boulevard and East 132nd Street, as officers attempted to arrest Colon, a convicted felon and registered sex offender who had missed a parole hearing.

According to authorities, Colon was inside the apartment with his girlfriend when officers approached. After being ordered to show his hands, Colon reportedly declared he had a gun and refused to comply. NYPD Deputy Chief John Wilson said officers tried to deescalate the situation for roughly 90 seconds before an officer fired, striking Colon near the face.

Colon was transported to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police recovered a firearm at the scene, which is being processed by crime scene investigators. Colon had previously served a decade in prison for attempted murder and had a juvenile conviction for rape. The investigation remains ongoing.
