Fatal Jackson County shooting death of Maley Elizabeth Ross – Obituary
Maley Elizabeth Ross, 27, was killed Wednesday night in an exchange of gunfire with Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Jimerson at the Reserve at Gulf Hills apartment complex on Washington Avenue in St. Martin. The deadly encounter also claimed the life of Deputy Jimerson, who later died at Ocean Springs Hospital from his injuries.
According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, deputies were responding to a disturbance call at the apartment complex when Ross, armed with a pistol, was pursued on foot and exchanged gunfire with the deputy. No other officers were injured, and Jimerson was wearing a body camera during the incident.

Deputy Jimerson began his service as a reserve deputy in 2010 and became a full-time deputy in 2014. Officials described him as a respected officer known for his dedication, professionalism, and compassion. Governor Tate Reeves and Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell issued statements honoring Jimerson as a hero who sacrificed his life in the line of duty.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and will report its findings to the Attorney General’s Office once the investigation concludes.
