Authorities have identified 27-year-old Maley Elizabeth Ross as the woman who died following a deputy-involved shooting in Jackson County late Wednesday night.
According to the Jackson County Coroner’s Office, Ross was killed at the scene after exchanging gunfire with Deputy Michael Jimerson. The deputy was transported to Ocean Springs Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Officials say the incident occurred around 11 p.m. at the Reserve at Gulf Hills apartment complex, where Ross lived. Deputies had responded to a reported domestic disturbance when the situation escalated.
Investigators reported that a brief foot chase took place before Ross and Deputy Jimerson engaged in a shootout. Authorities confirmed that Ross was armed with a handgun during the confrontation.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation stated that the deputy was equipped with a body camera at the time of the incident, and the case remains under investigation as officials work to determine the full sequence of events.
