Fatal Berks County crash death of Jeffory L. Buck – Obituary
A tragic crash in Berks County claimed the lives of two fire service leaders who were assisting in a search operation.
Jeffory L. Buck, who served as fire chief with the Walnuttown Fire and Rescue Company, was involved in a collision while riding in a utility vehicle alongside Assistant Fire Chief Robert R. Shick Jr. when the incident occurred around 6 p.m.
Authorities reported that the utility vehicle the two men were traveling in collided head-on with another vehicle during the search for a missing woman.
Buck was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Shick was taken to Reading Hospital, where he also succumbed to his injuries.
Both men were actively participating in the search effort at the time of the crash, making their loss especially significant to the local emergency response community.
Officials have scheduled autopsies as the investigation into the cause of the collision continues.
