Jose Alberto Francisco-Perez dies in fatal Johnston County I-42 rollover crash
Fatal Johnston County I-42 rollover crash death of Jose Alberto Francisco-Perez – Obituary
A Raleigh man was killed following a single-vehicle rollover crash early Friday morning in Johnston County.
Jose Alberto Francisco-Perez, 40, was a passenger in a Ford Ranger traveling westbound on Interstate 42 near the Wake County line when the crash occurred around 2:23 a.m.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the driver lost control after running off the roadway and overcorrecting, causing the truck to cross lanes and roll over multiple times before coming to rest upright. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle during the crash.
Francisco-Perez was transported to Wake Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Luis Angel Chaidez Gonzalez, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined that excessive speed and alcohol impairment contributed to the crash. Authorities also noted that neither occupant was wearing a seat belt at the time.
Gonzalez was later arrested and faces multiple charges, including felony death by motor vehicle and driving while impaired. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
