Fatal Ocilla shooting death of Marquavius Westbrook – Obituary
Marquavius Westbrook, 19, lost his life in a shooting during a block party in Ocilla, Georgia, over the weekend. Family members described him as simply enjoying the festivities before the evening turned deadly.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed their involvement at the request of the Ocilla Police Department after multiple people were shot near East 10th Street and North McKinley Street. Westbrook was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Three others were also wounded: 31-year-old Hilary Curtis, 20-year-old Damonee Crumedy, and 26-year-old Tyriana Oliver. Curtis was shot on her birthday but is expected to recover, according to her father, Pastor James C. Curtis, who expressed deep sympathy for the Westbrook family.
Community leaders and the Ocilla mayor, Melvin D. Harper II, called the shooting a “senseless loss” and stressed the need for unity and vigilance. Pastor Curtis urged residents to report any knowledge of those responsible, highlighting that many victims were innocent bystanders.
The investigation remains active, and authorities continue to ask anyone with information to contact the Ocilla Police Department or the GBI.
