Benjamin Greenfield, 40, was shot and killed by police late Saturday along North Academy Boulevard in Colorado Springs after allegedly firing at officers. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a weapon was recovered from his vehicle following the confrontation.
Authorities reported that officers first made contact with Greenfield and a woman in a suspicious vehicle. The woman complied with commands to exit, but Greenfield remained inside and fired at least one round at officers. Multiple officers returned fire, striking Greenfield. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The woman involved was unharmed, and no officers were injured. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the incident and submit findings to the Fourth Judicial District Attorney’s Office, while CSPD plans to release a body camera video briefing 21 days after the shooting. Greenfield had prior contact with police, including involvement in an FBI raid in March.
