Philadelphia police have confirmed that a 75-year-old man, Anthony McKinley, was fatally shot during an incident involving law enforcement on a Tuesday morning.

Authorities reported that officers were dispatched around 7:14 a.m. to a residence in the 5400 block of Webster Street following reports of a possible hostage situation. Upon arrival, they encountered McKinley on the front porch of the home.

According to investigators, McKinley was holding a handgun when officers approached. Police say he pointed the weapon toward the responding officers and fired. In response, Officer Laura Pelczar, 26, discharged her firearm, striking McKinley.
