Randall Abernathy Sr., a 59-year-old Nashville motorcyclist, has died after being struck in a collision involving a turning vehicle in the city.
Authorities said the crash occurred Friday afternoon at the intersection of Bell Road and Nashboro Boulevard when a Ford Escape turned into the path of Abernathy’s Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was traveling south at the time of the impact and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Police reported that the driver of the SUV had been turning onto Bell Road when the collision occurred. Investigators have not yet determined fault and are reviewing whether right-of-way rules were followed. No signs of impairment were found in either driver.
The Metro Nashville Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing as they work to establish the exact sequence of events leading up to the crash. Officials have not announced any charges.
Authorities identified Abernathy as the victim following the incident and confirmed that he was a Nashville resident. The driver of the Ford Escape has not been publicly identified.
Officials emphasized that motorcycle crashes remain a serious safety concern in the area and continue to be the focus of ongoing traffic safety efforts.
