Fatal Memphis shooting death of Eugene McNeal – Obituary

A man has died after a shooting in South Memphis that occurred in late March and remained under investigation for weeks before an arrest was made.

Authorities identified the victim as Eugene McNeal, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside a residence on St. Paul Avenue.

Police said the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. on March 31 when officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 700 block of St. Paul Avenue. When they arrived, they discovered McNeal lying on the sidewalk outside the home, already deceased.

Investigators later collected physical evidence at the scene, including shell casings and personal items such as a phone and a hat found nearby. Surveillance footage from the area showed a silver Ford Fusion arriving at the location, where individuals were seen interacting moments before the shooting. Authorities stated the video suggested involvement by the vehicle’s driver in the incident.

The vehicle was later located abandoned at an apartment complex on Peabody Avenue. Additional surveillance footage reportedly showed the driver leaving the car and fleeing in another vehicle shortly after the shooting.

Following forensic analysis and search warrants, investigators linked evidence recovered from the car and a phone to one of the suspects.

On April 7, a second suspect, Okorie Deshun Thomas, was taken into custody. Earlier, on April 3, Tyquan Quinn, 25, was arrested and charged in connection with the case. Both individuals are facing charges related to the killing and tampering with evidence and are being held on bond as proceedings continue.

Authorities say the investigation remains active as they continue to piece together the full sequence of events leading up to the fatal shooting.
