Fatal Lafayette shooting death of Dynasty Battle

Police confirmed that an 18-year-old woman, Dynasty Battle, has passed away following a fatal incident in Lafayette. According to reports from law enforcement, the event occurred around 10:50 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

A gunshot inside an apartment complex located in the 900 block of North Ninth Street interrupted the quiet of the night. This shot proved fatal for Battle, who was identified as a local resident of Lafayette. The Tippecanoe County Coroner, Carrie Costello, was involved in the official investigation.

Investigators suspect that 20-year-old Grace A. Fultz, who resides in the 4800 block of Dobson Drive, is responsible for firing the round that led to this tragedy. The handgun used in the shooting was retrieved by officers at the scene. Authorities noted that there was no prior indication of a disturbance, such as arguments, before the fatal shot was discharged.

Incorporating the suspected charges against Fultz, it is reported that she was taken into custody and booked at the Tippecanoe County Jail. The reasons cited for her arrest include suspicions of involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, criminal negligence, and improper handling of a firearm.

A neighbor, Andria Adams, stated that the sound of the gunshot was distinctly heard from below, but there was no prior commotion. Adams emphasized that no shouting or physical altercation was detected before the shot rang out, leaving the community concerned and seeking answers.

The apartment complex in question is a historic two-story structure, functioning as a carriage house, with two separate living units. Information indicates that the tenant involved in this incident was relatively new to the property. Further inquiries revealed that three individuals were present in the apartment at the time of the shooting, though official confirmation on this detail was not immediately available from the police as of Thursday afternoon.
