Fatal West Terre Haute, Indiana altercation death of Edward Robert Gibson

Vigo County authorities reported that Edward Robert Gibson, a 73-year-old local resident, died as a result of a homicide investigation stemming from an incident nearly a week prior. According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, emergency services were called to St. Mary’s Road in West Terre Haute on October 8th, responding to reports of an altercation. Upon arrival, law enforcement located an injured man, later confirmed to be Edward Robert Gibson.

Initial reports from deputies indicated that Gibson sustained injuries during a confrontation that began after a discussion between him and Thomas Sebring, another Vigo County resident aged 57. A third individual, Larry Norris, who was 70 years old, reportedly approached the pair and shortly thereafter, a heated exchange escalated into physical violence. Despite receiving initial medical attention at the scene and being transported to Union Hospital the following day, Edward Robert Gibson refused further treatment but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries three days later on October 12th.

Further examination was conducted by the Vigo County Coroner’s Office, who performed an autopsy on October 14th. The preliminary findings classified the death as a homicide, with the official cause determined to be “Complications of Blunt Force Closed Head Injury.”

Larry Norris, the third individual involved, also departed the scene initially but was apprehended and transported to Regional Hospital before being moved to a facility in Indianapolis for continued care. Norris faces multiple charges including aggravated battery, possession of controlled substances, and marijuana possession, all filed through the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office.
