Investigators from the coroner’s office have named the individual who perished as eighty-one-year-old Hettie L. Bruce. She was crossing the premises of Lowe’s Home Improvement along Poinsett Highway when she was struck by a pickup truck belonging to another party.

The pickup, a model from 2026, was attempting to merge onto US 276 when the collision occurred. Emergency services arrived promptly and transported her to Greenville Memorial Hospital, though her condition deteriorated quickly.

At 1:13 p.m., hospital staff pronounced her death. The official cause was determined to be an unfortunate accident, with no indication of criminal liability. The driver of the pickup truck involved remained unharmed.
