Fatal La Habra shooting death of Jonathan Wang, Jacqueline Medrano

Law enforcement officials announced on Wednesday that two individuals have been identified as victims of a suspected murder-suicide that unfolded inside a Korean barbecue establishment in La Habra. Police characterized the event as a “targeted attack.” Investigators reported that Jonathan Wang, aged 35, entered the Gui Gui 9292 Korean BBQ located on Imperial Highway at approximately 6:43 p.m. on Tuesday. Inside the premises, Wang shot and killed 45-year-old Jacqueline Medrano. According to La Habra police, after the shooting of his former partner, Wang turned the weapon towards himself and took his own life.

Detective N. Pineda confirmed that Wang and Medrano had a prior romantic relationship. Crucially, a criminal protection order had been issued against Wang, prohibiting him from contacting Medrano. This restraining order was still in effect at the time of the tragic events that led to Medrano’s death and Wang’s suicide.

Further investigation has not yet identified any other suspects involved in this incident. Authorities state there is currently no indication of a broader threat to the public. No other individuals were reported to be injured in the shooting at the restaurant.

Individuals who might have witnessed the incident or possess additional information are being urged to contact Detective N. Pineda at (562) 383-4353 or speak with the on-duty Watch Commander.
