Fatal Nye County car crash death of Richard Dow Haviland

Nevada State Police have stated that a deadly highway incident in Nye County is now officially under investigation.

According to the law enforcement agency, the accident took place at approximately 12:22 a.m. on October 7, along the southbound stretch of US 95 south of mile marker 16.

Nevada State Police indicated that at this time, a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck was stationary in the number one travel lane of US 95. A 2016 Mercedes Benz GLE sport utility vehicle, moving in the opposite direction on the northbound lanes, spotted the stationary truck ahead. The officers reported that the driver attempted to avoid the collision by making an evasive maneuver, swerving to the left.

However, the swerve resulted in the Mercedes crossing over the center divider. This action placed the SUV into the southbound travel lane, where it collided with a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck.

The driver of the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado, identified by Nevada State Police as 34-year-old Richard Dow Haviland from Pahrump, was pronounced deceased at the accident location.

This incident represents the 49th fatality from a crash investigated by Nevada State Police’s Southern Command during the year 2025.

Nevada State Police have confirmed that their Major Incident Reconstruction Team is currently examining the circumstances surrounding this collision.
