Fatal East Haddam car crash death of Stephen John Nichols
State troopers confirmed that a motorcycle and pickup truck collision on East Haddam’s Colchester Turnpike resulted in the death of a Madison resident, police reported.
The individual killed in the crash on Wednesday was identified as 63-year-old Stephen John Nichols by the Connecticut State Police.
According to law enforcement, officers arrived at the scene near the point where the Starr Road overpass meets Olmstead Road, following reports of the BMW motorcycle and Toyota Tacoma collision at approximately 4:37 p.m. The preliminary investigation suggests Nichols, who was operating the motorcycle, was heading west on the turnpike. The pickup truck, driven by someone going south on Starr Road, entered the same intersection and struck the path of the motorcycle, police indicated.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified as a 51-year-old East Haddam resident, was uninjured and chose not to seek medical attention after the collision, authorities stated. Nichols was ejected from his motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the accident location.
