Authorities have identified 75-year-old Chester Wojnicki of Mount Prospect as the pilot who died when his small aircraft crashed in a residential area in Deerfield, Illinois.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Wojnicki succumbed to blunt force injuries sustained during the crash, which occurred around 9:45 p.m. on March 4. He was piloting a Cessna T210 at the time of the accident.
According to officials, the plane departed from Dane County Regional Airport in Madison, Wisconsin, en route to Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling. Upon approaching Deerfield, the aircraft struck a roof and two gas meters in a neighborhood of townhomes housing roughly 900 residents.
Witnesses described seeing the plane descend rapidly before impact, and first responders found the cockpit destroyed. Wojnicki was the sole occupant, and no other injuries were reported. Authorities continue to review the circumstances of the crash.
