Vincent Lipski, 61, of Madison, died after sustaining serious injuries in a hit-and-run crash over the weekend, according to the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Officials confirmed Lipski passed away at a hospital following the incident. A forensic examination was completed Monday, with additional testing still underway.

Madison Police Department officers responded to the scene around 7:45 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Commercial Avenue and Mesta Lane, where Lipski had been struck while crossing the roadway.

Investigators reported that the driver initially stopped after the collision to check on Lipski but later returned to the vehicle and fled the scene.

Authorities have since taken a suspect into custody. The individual faces charges including hit-and-run causing death, operating a vehicle after suspension, and first-offense operating while intoxicated.

The case remains under investigation as officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.
